What hail leaves behind
Shingles
Hail can knock off a shingle's gritty top layer, leave soft dark spots, or crack it. A shingle that loses its top layer wears out faster.
Gutters and other metal
Hail dents gutters, downspouts and metal vents. The dents show how big the hail was and which way it came from.
Vents and pipes
Hail can crack a plastic vent or split the rubber seal around a pipe, two places where a leak can start.
Windows and siding
Hail can crack or chip siding and tear window screens.
