Storm and hail damage

After a storm, start here.

Inspections are typically scheduled one to two days out, longer in the week after a big storm. Emergencies and active leaks come first.

After a storm

What to do first.

  • If water is coming in, move what you can out of the way and call us. We offer emergency tarping Monday through Friday, and Saturdays by appointment. A tarp is temporary protection until a permanent repair is made.Tarping costs $200 for the first square (10-by-10-foot area) and $50 for each additional square.
  • Stay off the roof. A wet or damaged roof is dangerous, and you can see a lot from the ground.
  • From the ground, look for the obvious: missing shingles, dented gutters or vents, debris in the yard.
  • Check your ceilings and attic for new stains or drips.
  • Write down the date of the storm and take photos to document the damage and hail that may have fallen.
  • Take your time: after a big storm, roofers may come to your door and pressure you to make decisions. Address active leaks promptly, but you can take your time to decide how to proceed and who to proceed with.
Is there damage?

How you know if there's damage

An inspection covers the roof, gutters, windows and siding, and its report shows any damage in photos.

We'll review the findings with you to explain what the findings mean and how to address them.

Storm damage and insurance

Is it worth a claim?

Fixing the roof and filing a claim are separate decisions.

Filing is up to you, and coverage is up to your insurance company.

We will give you the information and our recommendation, and we'll be there for you whichever path you choose.

Roof Cake doesn't decide insurance coverage, and no roofer can promise what an insurance company will pay.

Not sure what your roof needs?

That's okay. Let us take a look.
